ABOUT TAKLA FIRST NATION:

The traditional territory of the Takla First Nation is located in North Central British Columbia and totals approximately 27,250 square kilometers. The territory is a rich environment of lakes, rivers, forests, and mountains, bordered on the west by the Skeena Mountains and on the east by the Rocky Mountains. Takla Nation is an amalgamation of the North Takla Band and the Fort Connelly Band, a union which occurred in 1959. Our traditional lands are the geographic area occupied by our ancestors for community, social, economic, and spiritual purposes. Carrier and Sekani place names exist for every physical feature and place that we occupy. Each name reflects the significance of the feature or site and today provides us with historical information to the rich history and extensive knowledge of our land and our resources.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating consistent, meaningful content on all social media platforms. This includes writing and editing content for the website, press releases, stories, social media posts, creating and posting video clips, improving customer engagement, and promoting social media campaigns.

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for communicating the successes of Leadership in terms of environmental responsible natural resource developments and Takla Nation building initiatives currently under development. Ultimately the intent of this role is to increase communication channels and dialogue with the Takla membership through the website and diverse social media platforms.  Ultimately, growing  the number of Takla Nation social media followers and/or visitors to our website.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the CAO and Communications Consultant to develop and implement a communications strategy.
  • Work closely with the CAO and communications consultant.
  • Support crisis management and preemptive planning.
  • Effectively manage the communications budget.
  • Cultivate an environment of readiness and alertness.
  • Maintain an awareness of company opportunities, risks and threats.
  • Project a positive company image to the public and manage media relations.
  • Ensure quality control of all information released.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions, and of systemic issues faced by First Nations people, and of the political and administrative structures of First Nations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, integrity, ethics and accountability.
  • Demonstrated positive experience and judgement in decision-making and problem solving.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ years’ communications experience.
  • Awareness of and proficiency with communications technologies.
  • Clear and concise communication with team members and senior management.
  • 3 years of experience in developing social media, infographics, and press releases.
  • Strategically uses social media for brand awareness and impressions.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, and other social media. Good understanding of social media KPIs and the importance of linking these platforms back to the website.
  • Familiarity with web design and publishing.
